There are different ways to move content in Windows and Microsoft Office apps. The main methods are dragging and cut and paste.

    Drag and drop

Dragging, also referred to as 'drag and drop' or 'click and drag', is where you select a file or content holding down left click and move the mouse/mousepad to another location, then let go to 'drop'. Dragging a sentence in Microsoft Word to move it to another line. Dragging a cell value in Microsoft Excel to a new location. Dragging a file from one window to another to move it.

    Cut and paste

Cutting and pasting is where you copy content to the clipboard while removing ('cutting') it from its original location, to then duplicate ('paste') it elsewhere. Hence the phrase 'cut and paste'.

For content in applications, the content is removed when cut.

For files, they are removed from their original location once pasted into the new location.

You can use the keyboard shortcut:

    1. Ctrl + X to cut Ctrl and X to cut
    2. then
    3. Ctrl + V to paste Ctrl and V to paste
Cutting a sentence in Microsoft Word and pasting it elsewhere. Cutting a cell value in Microsoft Excel and pasting it an new location/. Cutting a file in a window and pasting it into a new folder location.

If you want to move multiple bits of content or files this is explored in the intermediate version of this article.
